Transformative Dialogue: Facilitating Deep Conversations in Organisations, Groups, Community

This workshop focuses on the experiences and challenges of Transformative Dialogue (TD) in different settings where communities, groups and organizations are dealing with deep divisions. We’ll look at the values and worldview that TD facilitators bring to diversity and deep dialogue work and our commitment to following the voices in the room. We’ll also examine some of the challenges in facilitating TD processes:

• how to remain neutral and nondirective in the facilitator role when we are also involved and identify with the goals of the group?
• supporting and building bridges across great divides -
  • Holding space for the unbridgeable moments, the “you just don’t get it and never will” moments, the moments when apologies are offered, withheld, accepted, rejected…
  • Participants often speak different languages/dialects
    • who is translating and what effect does this have on the conversation?
    • code-switching; how to support participants speaking in their own authentic voices
